I have a serious problem at hand. I have a linksys wireless network at home with two computers on it. One is my home PC and the other is my office laptop. My home PC has Windows98 on it. Of let I’ve been constantly hammered by the unwanted web sites gaining access on my PC. They change my default home page. When I start my computer I don’t get an access for about 10 minutes and I can see that my hard drive is actively doing something. Then is floods the system with a host of web pages.
Is there something I can do to prevent that? I regularly delete the cookies and history from my computer. Whenever I find bad sites I put them in my ‘restricted sites’ in security tab. (I am using IE). I noticed that these programs had created folders in Program files so I cleared them. (Another problem is I am not a windows person so I don’t know which programs come with OS as default and which are add-ons; So I risk loosing a genuine program if the name looks suspicious.)
Can I make use of the linksys router to prevent this unwanted attack on my system? This is getting frustrating even to use that computer. Interestingly enough, it doesn’t affect my office laptop even if using on the same network. Is it because it has a better virus protection program?
By now you must have realized I am, what my friends refer to me as, a Network Challenged person. If I am not on the right forum to discuss this please let me know. Any help on preventing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Seems to me you are being infected with spyware and browser hijacks. Read through some posts on the "general virus discusion" page and you will get a some good idea's how to get rid of this stuff.

The forum "General virus discussion" was recently renamed to encompass spyware and is now called the Virus/Spyware discussion.
