I thought that I was a reasonably competent VBA technician but think that I have shot myself in the foot. Whilst developing some VBA code within Excel I seem to have acquired an unwanted hot key “/” Whenever I enter a single / to a cell the File menu is enclosed within a pale blue box and the cell remains empty as does the entry box; when I hit the enter key the full menu is displayed.

I use Windows XP (HE) and Office XP Standard. I have tried removing the .xlb and Personal.xls files and reinstalling Office but the problem remains.

Has anyone any ideas please?

Hi swonston,

Under Tools > Options > Transition tab > Settings, there is a textbox to enter a character and two option buttons. Most likely you have the default "/" in the textbox and Microsoft Excel menus selected. Just delete the character in the textbox to remove the "/" key action.

Enjoy,
Tony
