Unwanted desktop changes (icons)

Whenever I try to change something around the desktop (set IE as the default browser, change the background through the display properties menu... anything) the text below the icons (on the desktop) changes background from transparent to filled (with the desktop color). And that looks bad.

I couldn't find a way to help it, and I don't understand why it happens.

If fact, system restore helps, but the effect of change is then gone. Plus, that kind of behaviour is wrong.

One more thing, I tried to get this bug with a different user, and didn't get it, so only my account is affected.

Any suggestions?

Create yourself a new user account - copy old stuff over to it & bin the original? Probably quicker than investigating why its losing its settings (may just be corrupted).
