IP 500V1, 4.2.4 - Only happens on receptionist phone 4424

Call comes in on PRI, receptionist hears nothing, caller hears unbearable squealing. Next call comes in, same thing and repeats same problem on each incoming call until the receptionist makes an 'outside' call. If she makes an internal call, same problem persists until the she makes outside call. Happens once every 6 - 8 weeks or so. Once she dials '9', does not happen again for a while.

I'm going to upgrade to latest 5.X release but was just pondering if anyone had heard or come across this IP Office phenomena!!! LOL

Bet it's the provider, did you try to reboot the PRI unit or let the provider swap the PRI unit.

Bas,

No we haven't. Today was the third time it has happened. The first time was just unusual occurrence. 2nd time, told her to start a log of things when it happened again. Blind luck really finding out about the internal and external dialing. Now, catch this, up the street we have another 500 with PRI with DIFFERENT provider, same thing happens but, have to do press overhead page button for it to clear. Sure the other provider still rides ATT lines like everyone else but customer just called me to tell me this new and exciting news and I will have to conquer them tomorrow!!!

Could be the PRI is out of sync.

Check if they have set CRC4 ON or OFF

That is what is confrusing me. I look at System Status for the location and no slips, bursts or errors of any kind. I know I should have started a monitor session last time but didn't.

*00, this cancels forwarding, how is this affected or affecting? What is the significance? - Sorry just never heard of this fix.

The phone is on a Dig 8 card in the first slot.

Thanks folks,

Diz

*00 is an odd phenomenom in that it clears forwards but it also stops phones that are screeching from screeching. The why or how I do not know though.

*00 is a fix for the internal DTMF squeal, don't think it will help in this case if it's the external party hearing the squealing.

Are you sure the 4424 is plugged into the DS8? they are not supported on that module. only expansion modules.

Pepp/Tom,

Thanks for the info, will go down in my little black book!!! :)

Kwing, you are correct Sir. The phone is actually in Module 1 port 30. (I was deceiving you LOL)Receptionist is actually extension 200, not 100 which is in the BD2-1.

When I called the receptionist this morning to have her explain exactly what the squeal sounded like, she stated only the caller hears it, she never has; receptionist hears complete silence. This is also a 'once in a blue moon' event. They do have a couple of old copper lines in the switch that could not be 'win-back' that they wanted to keep the numbers on. I have 'Modem Enabled' un-ticked on the analog line because we do not use dial-in services. But the 800 number is on the PRI which both of the last two callers said they were calling.

I would upgrade from 4.2.4 to 5.0.22 and try again.
Strange issues which cannot be solved instandly do ask for an upgrade.
When it is still there then make trace and or replace hardware.
Still there then create a case with avaya
