I am using Access XP for an application split in front end and back end. The front end is distributed to 6 users, all writing to a single back end on a server. Occasionally the users get "Unrecognized database format" error, at which time they have to exit the application and run Access compact and repair utility on the back end to get back in. When the error occurs the front end seems to continue running without a problem. The back end is the source of the error.
Has anyone encountered this? What is the solution?
Thanks

Are you compacting and repairing the database on close?

Hi
No I am not, but I do periodically compact and repair. The problem with compact and repair on close is that there's no way of garanteeing all users are signed off when it is run from a station. Have you run into this yourself? I have other databases in Access 2K where this never happens. Is this particular to XP? Does it have to do with different Jet versions?
Thanks.
