Both my optical drives are not being "seen" by my computer, and are not listed in the explorer mode in windows. I have no clue what I did to make them go away. One day trying to burn a CD my computer said there was no recognizable recorder. I have already tried to reinstall the primary and secondary IDE controllers. The controllers were installed no problem, but once again they optical drives are not recognized. Am I right by trying to reinstall the IDE controllers, and is there something else to try since that didn't work? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

mostlikely the upper and lowerfilters within the Registry have gotten corrupt...

To fix try the following: open the Registry Editor...

START, RUN, type in Regedit... search for the following KEY and delete it:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}"

Without the quotes ofcourse...

If you can't delete it, then you might have to give yourself access by right clicking (on the leftside) and set your access rights first...

then exit the RegEdit and go to the 'Devicemanager' and uninstall all CD-ROM's, DVD's, and CD-RW's...

REBOOT...

let Windows reinstall the drives...
