I've just recently installed Windows XP SP2 onto my Toshiba Satellite PRO laptop and now when my laptop comes out of hibernation I get "Unknown USB Device" reported. I don't currently have any USB devices connected to my laptop.

I don't get problems when booting from switch on, only when coming out of hibernation

Thread

seems to talk about a similar issue when connecting a USB device after hibernation but I am not connecting a device. I have tried updating the usb drivers but no difference. Has anyone seen this & got a solution??

Did you try Method 4 of that article just to see if it fixed the problem?

Hi linney

I have to admit I hadn't tried option 4 because it discusseed battery life on laptops but I've tried it this morning & it certainly seems to be OK at the moment. I will continue to monitor. Any idea if Microsoft will fix this?

No idea. At least they are aware of the problem, and the article is a very recent one. It should be said that your problem is not one of the more common ones seen in this forum. SP2 will generate a flurry of activity in the short term so it might receive attention during that period but I wouldn't hold your breadth.

Just to keep you informed I left my laptop on last night & this morning I still received "unknown USB device" when I hit the button to get out of hibernation. It seems to be better with the power management disabled as I only received one error & it now seems happy. As you say i wont hold my breath.
