Hi,

I don't know why all of a sudden my PC has started doing this, it never used to.

When I click on my desktop icon to open the company MS Access DB, I get an Open File Security Warning - Unkown Publisher pop-up and I have to choose 'open' to run the DB.

Why has this just started to happen? it used to run fine.

How can I stop this before it drives me so mad i wipe my hard drive and start again!

You're opening an Access DB from within IE?
Sounds like you need to check the settings under the 'security' tab in internet options. Sounds like maybe the option "run components not signed with authenticode" is set to "prompt".
Either that, or one of the settings under the "advanced" tab.

no i'm double clicking a shortcut on my desktop and the internet setting is set to enable.

All i know is yesterday i had a couple of MS Anti-Spyware prompts, as we had major network outages, I didn't have the time for the annoying popups, so i chose to untick the remember option and selected NO. thinking when it askes me again I'll read and see if i want to allow what ever it was.

Only the spyware hasn't asked me again and now this has started happening.

I've uninstalled the antispy and re-installed but same problem, i've also 100% up-to-sate with all patches and updates for office and windows.

why i've started getting this may have nothing to do with the MS anti-spyware, all I know is I installed SP2 for Office a week ago and it was @ 40 mb and today, when i checked my updates I had to install SP2 and it was 90mb.

So it could be to do with a flawed update from MS and they had to re-issue the SP2 but now my system is screwed.

I've read your links and find them not very helpfull.

1) why should we get a certificate, more money for old rope, this is a simple ms access mdb, written inhouse and run inhouse, this msg is BS.

2) No one else is getting the problem, none of the other employees get this msg when opening the DB, i never used to have this, i've not changed my internet settings, and making them all set to "LOW" doesn't resolve it anyway.

My guess is that the MS Anti-Spyware, firstly being MS and secondly being Beta is to blame and now my registry is screwed.

nothing I can do except wipe windows and start again, unless someone out there knows of an actual fix to this problem, what key it is i need to fix/add/remove.

Regards,

Craig.

Why not try contacting your helpdesk about your MS Access app then?

If this is only happening to you though it's highly unlikely to be an MS issue, or an MS Access issue. It could be your machine configuration in relation to security or something you have done.

Could it be your Macro security settings?

A silly question but have you looked at your event viewer to check out any messages in there?

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

not macro settings, i'd say 99% it's that darn Spyware prompt I said "NO" to, as it has happened ever since.

OH well yet another annoying pop up to close when trying to do something, welcome to the world of MS.

As we posted at the same time I am not sure if you saw my post... anyway have a look at the event logs to see if there is anything showing up there.

The reason it has "just started" will be a security hotfix for Windows XP Service Pack 2. Most people will get this in an SP2 upgrade they receive, but the first few releases of SP2 didn't include this annoying pop up on things that are not certified, just ones that were flagged as potentially unsafe, rather than things that were not marked as safe.

Either you didn't have, or had an early version of Windows XP SP2

I get this message too(Office 2003). The message itself has a "more info" button and after clicking on that and clicking in circles I stumbled on the following:

To stop displaying macro warnings, change the security level to Low on the Security Level tab (on the Tools menu, point to Macro, and click Security). To avoid a macro virus infection on your computer, change the security level to Low only if you are running specialized antivirus software that can check documents for macro viruses, and you are sure all the macros you use are from trusted sources.

The messages have now stopped. I find it amusing that if you set security setting to high you cannot get into any access file. I can't guite see the use for that but perhaps my vision is too narrow. This can apparently be set at the Group policy level too.

nice try but this setting is already on low.

The warning i'm getting is not that one you get if the setting was not on low.

this is a completely different security warning, maybe uninstalling office might help, I have just installed SP2 for office 2003, could that be the problem?

Is there a IP address from the "company MS Access DB" that you can insert as a Trusted Site in IE or your Firewall?

Have you tried the "Detect and Repair" option from the Help menu of Access?

Frequently asked questions about Access security warnings

Troubleshoot macro security level and warnings

About digital signatures

Are there any details on the Office Site as to what Office SP2 is supposed to change or fix in Access?

It doesn't show an IP in the warning prompt for me to add.

It shows a drive letter and when you try to add that to the trusted sites it pops up a window saying that the drive letter is already in the trusted sites, yet you cannot see it in the box where it displays all the trusted sites!

I compact and repair the database regularly that makes no difference.

Search for these two titles in MS AntiSpyware Help.

Restoring a Disabled Item (Blocked Event)
How to restore a quarantined item

Even though you uninstalled and re-installed MS AntiSpyware, it is possible that it retained in the
program folder, registry or other location, your original settings etc.

none of that made a difference. I went through setting in the Anti-Spy, nothing is blocked, same problem. I'm starting to feel the only way out of this is the good old fashioned Win98 way - wipe it and start again!

Yup I'm gonna wipe it, animated gifs won't animate, they just show as static images - my machine is screwed!
