Unknown Host

I have a website on my server. When I ping the site like this "ping I get an error "Unknown Host
But when I do "ping mysite.com" everything works. What is wrong? I can not access my site.

Add an entry in dns called www, point it to your web server's host entry.

I already did that. Could the problem be on the IIS side? I am new at this web hosting thing.
