Hi,
A small teradata Box from NCR is probably out of that price range, more in line with Oracle (50 - 100 K).
On the other hand if you want to move to Windows ( or at least Test drive teradata for FREE ) you can down load a fully functional Teradata for Windows ( NT or 2000 ) Demo copy of teradata from
For absolutely nothing ( except some personal information like where do you want it mailed ).
the only cavet is not to use it in a production environment and the database can't be greater that a GIG. Other than that it is a full copy of Teradata with all the client utilities ( that they were willing to give away for free ).
Also it is identical in form a function to our UNIX product, so you could actually kick the tires by writing your own Visual basic and JDBC/ODBC applications ( and stored procedures ( requires a copy of visual C++ to be installed not provided )) and see if you like it.
We have enhanced our stored procedures in the latest version 4.1 released at the end of July, ( Jul 30, 2001 ) but that hasn't been pressed for DEMO yet.
You can look at our client and database software documentation at
