My college has just merged with a larger university. They have a Win2K3 Active Directory with a single organizational unit.
I am running a NT4 domain. My PDC hardware is a Quad Pentium Pro 200 w/ 512Ram, a 4gb ntfs primary partition/ 400MB free. I can free up space. Three other local drives with the largest having only 7Gb free.
I know that I cannot make my NT4 server a member server in their 2003 AD Forest, what I want to know is with this hardware/speed; is an upgrade to Win2K Server feasible. I think it will handle it fine, but not sure.
Once in 2000 my options to join the AD are much greater.

Also, I have a P4 2.4Xeon 1.0GB Ram that I will be setting up Win2k3 Server. Once I'm in 2000 (as I understand it, although never performed this task) migrating my user information, etc. to this Win2k3 machine will not be difficult. Any links to help with that migration are appreciated.

Hi jmank91, although I have upgraded P-133 servers (quad based) in the past to Win2K it runs but like molasses. Is there any reason you can't perform a migration of your NT4 environment to Win2K3 AD (since you are planning to build a Win2K3 server anyway) and then merge your new AD env with that of the larger university
If you go to the Windows 2003 server website, you will find documentation on how to perform this type of migration.

I forgot to mention this part..
We are required to be in a single forest by July 31, 2005. And that server that I plan on using (P4 Xeon) is going to be in use until August 31, 2005. Currently it is hosting our administration software and the associated web server for students to view their grades. I have to wait until after the current term is over before I can format, and rebuild. I can't get them to buy a new server to do this.
