Hi

Can anyone tell me how I can completely remove Windows Media Player from Windows 2003

It doesn't appear in Add/Remove Programs. I have modified c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf and removed the Hide value on the multimedia line and tried to then remove it from Add/Remove programs. It says its uninstalled but Media Player V9 remains..

Any ideas??

Thanks

Have you attempted to uninstall from Add/Remove programs->Add/remove Windows components?

Yes Ive tried that - not that simple. It still remains..

I think MS have tightly integrated this in the OS. Ive done a google search. A few people have asked the question but no solutions

There are other ways to prevent Media player use if that is all your looking for. How about adding wmplayer.exe to the restriced programs list?

Are you looking at doing this just on the server, or on the domain?

I did find something that you might find helpful:

Even though it states for the beta version, it may help for the "final" version....

My main reason for removing it is so I do not have to apply security patches for the product. We will not use the component but if installed we will be forced to patch (security mandate)..

Im creating a new Server SOE and wanted to not have it installed if at all possible..

I would setup a gpo thru gpedit.msc so that it is basically shutoff. Its easy and maintenance free.
