We are currently planning and testing to reorganize a forest. In the process we will need to take down and exchange server and and reinstall to another server in a different domain. This exchange server does not have any user mailboxes on it yet. When I try to uninstall, it says that I cannot because there is a postmaster account on this server. Also it says that I still have mailboxes on the server. The only mailboxes are the system mailboxes, and I have not manually created a postmaster mailbox. Any ideas?

I played with this problem for awhile. I deleted the system mailboxes. The only error I am getting now is
This server is the recipient update server for the domain. You cannot uninstall this server until you select a different Recipient Update Server for this domain.

I don't want to select another server for this domain, this domain is going to be decomissioned and replaced with a different domain and exchange server.

Well, I moved the recipient update server to another exchange server and the uninstall worked.
