UNC resolution Problem

windows 2000 Professional workstation (SP4)
Netware Client: v4.90.0.0 SP1a

if i go to a run line and type: \\novellservename
I recieve a "not found" error.

I can ping by server name, server IP.
I can go to NSLOOKUP, query the DNS server and get the server ip address by IP.
I can traceroute to the server.

If i go to a run line and type: \\novellserverip it works. from that point forward i can use the name and it will work as well.

if i reboot, it stops. If i apply a hosts file with the novell server in it, it always works.

Why, oh WHY! This doesn't effect every workstation, perhaps 20% can anyone else offer any suggestions.

configure your slp
check from the client using slpinfo /all
check from server using display slpda

use named scope and distribute your slp through dhcp

shows it has a DA (i manually configured the client for it not pushing through DHCP just yet)

Still doesn't work, only time it works is through the use of a hosts file but all common TCP/IP utilities work whether name or ip.

The workstations are all of the same GHOST image, so there isn't major difference in OS configuration.

I've been looking into this for 2 weeks. Read Novell and M$ knowledge bases till blood has come from my tear ducts.

Toe, why don't you do an SLPINFO /ALL and post the results. I'm guessing you have it configured wrong. It's hard to speculate what's wrong with the info you have given.

Also from the Server do a DISPLAY SLP DAS and also a DISPLAY SLP SERVICES and post them.
