Hello guys,

I am first time poster here. I have an issue with a keyboard filter driver.

The problem is that the driver disables most of the keyboard keys, and allows just 10 of them which are characters. Therefore CTRL, ALT, ENTER, DEL, etc. do not work and I cannot log into the system. My machine is configured with active directory, I use a network user. I tried to uninstall the driver manually, removed the .sys file from c:\windows\system32\drivers and also altered the registry from a remote machine using my account. However, this all had no effect on my system. I have no backup of the registry, but I made a copy when I started changing it. After a while I noticed that another issue has come up - when I press a keyboard key the mouse stops responding too. I restored the registry, but it still remains. Basically I saved the c:\windows\system32\config folder and then restored it - is this the right way to make registry backup? If you have some idea on how can I gain access to the machine, uninstall the filter driver, I will appreciate them. I don't want to reinstall windows, I want to keep my previous configuration.

If the filter is a .sys file, then it must load at boot up. If you can, go into Start, Run, MSConfig. Under the tab for system devices (I think) or devices loaded at start up, the Sys File should be listed with a check box to its left, which is ticked. Untick the box and Apply. Come out of MSconfig and reboot. The filter should not load, and the keyboard should work properly. However, before doing anything, the question you have to ask first, is why is the filter running in the first place, and is it necessary for the use of the machine.
