Unable to share calendar, POP3 accounts, newbie needs help!

This is what I know about the env., it is a single domain, windows 2000, with exchange 2000 on a single server which is also the primary DC server. In outlook, they have the accounts pointing to a pop3 account, which is the DC address. Sharing is greyed out for anything withing my Outlook client, which is outlook 2003. I'm new to exchange and wondering if the reason for this unable to share problem is b/c of the pop3 accounts. I didn't setup this server, walking into blind actually. I thought you should setup outlook using MS exchange account properties, I'm not certain why they are not doing this... Thanks for any help, and I understand if other questions need to be asked before mine can be answered, ask away.

A POP3 account is going to retrieve the emails into a local PST file. Can't share it that way.

Convert your users over to using the Exchange server directly instead of PST files.

What would be the purpose of using pop3 accounts then with an exchange server? Will something need to be done to the MX record if this is transfered over. Also will there be any data loss in transfering to an exchange account.

POP3 would be used if you couldn't connect to the Exchange server directly.

Nothing to do with the MX record, you just add the Exchange server to the users account/system list.

You can import the users PST's into the Exchange server via exmerge if you'd like, or have them transfer them individually.

Well looking in AD, they have Exchange as a tab with their email account so I'm assuming the Exchange server has been added to the user account. Within the system manager there is nothing in the global address list, shouldn't the names be there?
As far as connecting to the exchange server, they can ping it, but I doubt that is what you mean, is the a specific way a user needs to 'connect' to the server, is there a seperate login or somthing that is needed. And thank you for helping and excusing my newness...

Open Outlook on a users system, go to Tools-Services and add the Exchange service.

For outlook 2003, you would go to tools-email accounts, and select 'Add a new e-mail account'. Select Microsoft Exchange Server and follow the prompts from there.

Also, the tabs from AD is only to allow you to do certain exchange tasks on the server, such as giving an alias to an account and so forth.

Duh...I should have figured that out...my bad. As far as the global address list goes. It currently has nothing in there, is that b/c they are using pop3 instead of exchange for the email? Once a user account is created in outlook to use exchange, will this automatically populate the global address list or does this have to be done manually?

NO Once you create a user name, the Global address list should automatically add the member in.
