OK. I have two laptops, both using the same config and get an IP from DHCP. Setting are the same. One now works fine and the other no longer 'sees' the network. I have swapped cables and cards from the working machine to the not-working machine and it will still not work. I have uninstalled and re-installed all my network protocols and services and still no joy. I have even moved Ports. Both laptops are using 3Comm Etherlink cards. When it powers on, it displays the green light, but then it turns red after about 10 secs. Is the problem more likely down to a hardware fault on the laptop (ie. loose pin on the slot) or am I missing something here!

Thanks

John

try the working PCMCIA ethernet card in the PC that ain't going. if it works then your NIC is shafted.

Thanks,

Tried that though. Looks like I'll have to cough-up some money!

are they Type II cards. try in the 2nd slot. you probably have. I've found with a few 3 com NIC's to get them to connect consistently you have to drop the connection rate to half-duplex (10Mb). Try that from the 3com configuration program within windows. This is usually related to dodgy CAT5 cabling.
