Unable to restore system programming via RAD

Had to replace 0x32 mics w/ 6.1 software this weekend. I made a direct connection via RAD RS/232 port and performed a back-up. Installed new cabinet w/7.1 and all the same hardware.
I powered up the system and and performed a system start-up. Once the new template was applied i tried to perform a restore but could not. Could this be due the the change in software from 6.1 to 7.1???

You can only restore programming to the same software level and hardware configuration. You could have put the 6.1 in the new cabinet, restored programming, then upgraded to 7.1.

That's what i figured. I just went ahead and programmed manually. It was a small office. For future reference though, once the restore is complete just swap out software and programming remains intact.
