A couple of weeks ago I tried uninstalling a Cisco VPN client on my windows 2000 workstation. The uninstall seemed to work o.k. but after rebooting the machine I was unable to resolve DHCP from my ADSL router. I fixed an IP address within the scope and I was able to ping the gateway so as far as every thing looked it was o.k.
My problem got worse from here. I was unable to connect to the internet or receive email so I checked I was receiving DNS configs but this was no present as the DHCP agent was not working.
Again I was forced to fix the DNS IP in the network configs. This hasn’t worked. I am still unable to resolve DNS.
I have tried an nslookup and it will not resolve the DNS server ( 158.152.158)
I have tried different DNS server but the same happens. ‘ unable to resolve hostname’
I connected a laptop to the router and there are no issues. I have connectivity to the internet and email.
I tried reinstalling the VPN client but this didn’t make any changes. I also upgraded from Service pack 1 to service pack 4 but still no joy.
I uninstalled the windows TCP/IP services, rebooted 4 time and then reinstalled. Still nothing
The weird thing is I can tracert out to a real public IP and I can ping a real Public IP.
I also noticed that the live updates on the antivirus have no been updated for 63 days so my thoughts were it could be a coincidence but I managed to get a copy of the latest version of my virus software and it came back with no virus found.
Any suggestions would be great as I haven’t had internet access for 2 weeks now
