Unable to register DLL files

ok i got win98se

and wen i try and install things sometimes i get an error saying:

unable to register .dll

y is this happening? and is there a way to fix it?


i think it could hav somethin to do with either:

visual basic 6
visual basic 6 Service Pack 5
MDAC 2.8

possibly 1 of these, because it was fine b4 i installed it


any ideas would be great

It also could be that your path environment got messed up too. the intaller is probably just calling regsvr32.exe without putting the full path. Like this:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll (which IE does when it installs)
So if your "path" does not include c:\windows\system than it will fail.
Open a DOS prompt and type path and see what it says. These are set in the autexec.bat file. Sometimes a software will add itself to the path and screw up the original. If there are more than one line for "path" make sure the additional lines all have %path% in them. That will include previous statements and not override them.
Here is mine from work as an example:
PATH C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\DOS;C:\NET;%path%
PATH C:\Novell\Client32;%PATH%
Notice the semicolons and the %path%.
