Unable to manually arrange desktop icons

Got a funny feeling the answer to this is going to be something simple but....
I cannot manually arrange the icons on the Desktop, as thought I have the auto arrange feature chosen (I haven't by the way) .... all the icons return to their original position. I can arrange them with any of the normal choices... date/name etc. but not manually place them.


What have I completely forgotten then !

On the desktop context menu untick the "Auto Arrange" option in the "Arrange Icons" sub menu.

Are you logged in as Administrator on the machine? If not, try that account, see if the same behavior occurs. If not, then the account you were logged in with has somehow got restricted rights on the desktop. Good luck! Fred Wagner
