unable to display folder in outlook XP for an exchange folder

I replaced a computer for a user and after I setup outlook (office xp standard) to access the exchange (5.5) mailbox and I accessed the inbox outlook displayed the following info. “Unable to display the folder.”. I then created a .pst and routed the mail to that inbox. Three unread messages didn’t transfer to the pst, there could be addition read messages “stuck” as well. Any ideas how to retrieve the messages?
