Is this just saying that there was no media in the CD drive so the test could not be completed? Stupid question: have you put a CD in the drive?

Is it a slimline CD-ROM? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

i boot the system to win2k and it was unable to read the CD.....

Could that be a problem with the OS and not with the CD drive? Can you boot off the SmartStart CD? -----------------------------------------------------

The error in the diagnostics is always normal if you have no media in the CDrom drive; I bet your floppy drive fialed too.

If your Cdrom is not booting bootable media then try and see the boot order. Check the power and IDE cables. If your still have the same issue you may have a failed CDrom drive.
