On a 98 machine I have installed all clients and protocols necessary for networking. I've used the 192.168.0. addresses cos I plan to use ICS. I can browse the drives etc on the 98 machine from my W2K Pro machine but when I try to access anything from the 98 machine I get the error saying:

Unable to browse the network.
The network is not accessible.
Installed:
TCP/IP
Client for Microsoft networks
File and Printer sharing for Microsoft networks.
Microsoft family Logon
windows Logon.

Any ideas?

can you ping the 2k machine? are resources shared on win2k machine? have you got an account set up on 2k machine with same user id/password you log on to 98 machine with? is client for microsoft networks primary logon?
often on win98 machines, removing and reinstalling network elements solves this sort of problem.
there's no reason to install netbeui - tcp/ip should work - and you'll need it for ICS (just an additional overhead having 2 network protocols installed).
when you enable ICS on the 2k machine, you should set 98 machine to pick up IP address automatically, as with ICS enabled, 2k machine acts as DHCP server.

Ping seems to bring up the the dialer but when I cancel the dialer the ping does then go through. By the way, The ICS is going to be set up on the 98 machine and then that machine goes off to a client of mine.
Resources on the 2K machine are shared and the Guest account has been temporarily enabled but it seems to come up with that error message even before attempting to logon to the network.

PS I went to Internet Explorer Properties and checked "Never Dial ... " and that has stopped the invocation of the dialer on the pinging and the ping does get through.

Guys, I really do appreciate the help but I have now solved the problem by reinstalling W98 from a full Win98SE cd. The version that was installed was from a Dell recovery CD and I guess that they just don't put the entire contents of Win98 on the recovery CDs. Anyway, again, I do thank you for your input.
