Unable to Auto Protect

I can't get my NAV 2003 to stick with the Auto Protect when I click it. I also keep getting NAV popup messages about viruses that it seems unable to delete...I hit OK but they pop up and this goes on forever...I finally have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to turn off NAV.
