Hi,
i configured arcserve to auto eject tape after backup, but i find that i still need to press on the unload button on the tape drive to eject the tape.
any idea whats wrong here?

not sure, so here are some general recommendations:
make sure the device is disabled in the Windows OS Device Manager.
check for updates to ARCserve.
check for updates to the drive firmware.
put the Tape Engine in debug and log it for us to see.

Depends if it is a single drive - if so the checkbox in global options of the backup job should do this for you.

If it is a tape drive in a library then there is an option in ARCserve 11.0 or later to eject tapes from the drive after backup (in device configuration). It does not apply to versions prior to v11.0

how to put the Tape Engine in debug ?

Go to the 'Server Admin' select admin-configuration.
Go to the tape engine and set the level to detail

regards

don't understand why you would disable the tape device, how will it work?

Disabling the tape drive in Windows == Disabling the driver for it. Since ARCserve provides device support using its own tape engine it does not require windows drivers.

Oh - now I see that I am in the wrong Forum. I have Veritas software...

I found a solution to the problem of the tape not auto ejecting upon successful completion of backup.
Our tape drive needed to be cleaned with a cleaner TAPE.
