I have written sql in the sql designer, and saved it as a .qry file. When I try to add the .qry file to a crystal report in the data tab of the standard report expert, nothing happens when I select the .qry file and hit add. Does anyone know what causes this?

Reports based on a QRY file can only use one QRY. You can't join several of them together.

When creating a new report look for Crystal Dictionary and InfoView in the database explorer. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear

Sorry if I haven't been clear. I was trying to add one .qry file to a blank report but when I click on add nothing happens.

What version of CR?
Can you describe your steps, starting with "File - New"? Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

I am using developer version 8.5. The steps are:
File, new, select using the Report Expert and choose standard and hit ok. Under the data tab click on crystal sql query and click on Crystal Sql query files. Select a file with a .qry extension, and click add. No query file is added to the report.

Sounds like you are doing things correctly in Crystal.

Try processing the SQL in the SQL designer before saving it.
Also try saving the QRY both with and without data.
Last, try creating a different, simpler QRY and see if you can add that one.

If all of these fail, I would try reinstalling Crystal. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
