I think I am having the same problem as "wncads" with a few different symptoms.
I try Add New Printer, and I can eventually get there. I try to add an HP port for a new Jetdirect box, and it goes away and never comes back on that thread. I can end the task, but it doesn't really end the task, the screens are still there on the server's console. Now there is nothing left in the applications window of Task Manager, and I can't get back in.
I DO have events in event viewer however --
No Domain Controller is available for CENTRAL (a defunct domain that still has a trust relationship with the server's domain -- another post!)
The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service hung on starting.
The Protected Storage Service depends on RPC which failed to start.
The RPC Service hung on starting.
I also notice that on boot, I don't get control of the desktop for several minutes (like 10)
I think these are related events, but I don't know what to do. I applied sp6a yesterday, and it didn't help at all. Now it takes longer to get to the desktop on the server after reboot!
Any suggestions welcome! JL Filler,Wilton Public Schools, Wilton CT
