Unable to access desktop icons

PIV 1.3ghz WinMe
I just installed Zone Alarm Pro trial version...DSL router to hub to Nic.... ZA seems to be working fine but when I close my browser (Netscape 7.1) and I double click on my desktop icons nothing. I can get in thru the start button and thru explorer but not thru the icons....Any ideas

So uninstall Zone Alarm. Any time you make a change, and bad stuff happens, then you have the battle won. You know what broke it...

You say DSL router, so if you have a Linksys, Netgear, or similar router between your modem and your hub, then the zone alarm is really overkill. That's the point of having the router, to allow mulitple clients outside access, and to provide a block on the way in for viruses and baddies.

Its a Westell WireSpeed DSL router. The reason I installed zone alaram was because trojans were gettting thru so I needed some more assurence

Westell modem or router??? Two different things. And I've never been a fan of software firewalls. If it is just the modem you have, I recommend purchasing a Linksys router. One can be bought for $50 or less.

not sure it was free and free is good !

In any case I just did a reboot and all is well with the world of desktop. I can click and they work.

Sometimes I amaze myself sometimes I'm just lucky
