Is it pretty straightforward to un-install a G450 gateway? Is it a matter of changing the "media-gateway" to "no information" or just "remove media-gateway #" and then power it down? Any other steps or places to change reflecting this gateway will no longer be there?

no quite. follow these steps to have it go smoothly.

#1 Remove any announcments that reference that media gateway.s virtual announcment board, this would be anything referencing XXXV9, where XXX is the MG #, find them by doing a 'list announcements', then "disable announcement-board XXXV9"

Now, turn OFF TTI, so that all analog and digital ports on any MM716/MM711/MM714/MM717/MM712 cards are showing as "x"s and not "p"s. Do this by "change system features", page 3, "Terminal Translation Initiliazation (TTI) Enabled?" stroke this to a "n" and save the form (enter or F3)

now wait a minute or two, and "status TTI", make sure everything is done.

you have already "X-ported" any analog and digital stations on the gateway, I assume. Change each station and type in an "X" for the port number, if you haven't. Allstations must be removed from the gateway.

Also, you have removed any ports assigned to any trunks on the gateway as well, "change trunk X", and remove any references to CO trunks on MM711/MM714 packs, and any DS1 channels or signalling groups on any MM710 cards also need to be removed.

Now that everything is removed, you can do a "change media X", and remove the cards, since there is nothing on them any longer.

Once that is done, you need to telnet or SSH into the gateway, and modify or clear the MGC list, so that the gateway unregisters from the switch, since you can't remove it while it is still registered (you could also just unplug the gateway and wait a while for it to unregister)

Now go back in and issue "remove media X", you should now be able to remove the G450, once it is no longer registered and there are no cards showing up on it...

Thanks Mitch. I failed to state that the gateway only has a DS1 module in it now and that will be moved to another gateway. So I'm good on all the checks/balances. I appreciate the info re: the MGC list.
