In December 2000 I purchased a Umax Astra 2100U [USB] scanner to use with a Windows ME-Intel 82810 motherboard computer. After experiencing some problems and going through Umax Tech. Support I was told that the software did NOT support Windows ME. The Umax drivers are supposed to support Windows 98, they do NOT plan to update the drivers for the Astra 2100U - Windows ME.
Somehow I was able to trick the scanner to scan and then printed that on my HP printer. I returned the 2100U for a full refund when I explained the problem to my dealer and showed them an email from Umax stating 2100U was not compatible with Windows ME. [Umax Astra 2100U currently sells for $29 after rebate.] Hope this helps.
