hi all
i am trying to setup an IBM Xseries 235 box with novell 5.0, this box comes with an ultra320 disk controller, i downloaded the drivers for this card and when i try to install it through novell, it does not give me an slot number, normally it would give you an slot # but its not happening. I did a littel research and found out that with support pack 7.0 for netware 5.0 should work but this support pack was never released, i also tried getting the drivers from newer versions of support pack from netware 5.1 but it does not seem to work either.
I checked and installed netware 5.1 and it worked fine, but this box needs to have 5.0.

pleas advice

Hi

Try and take the driver from the Netware v5.1 and use it on your v5.0, they are just pretty standard NLM's and I would not think there would be any problem. If its a "HAM" driver then it will have a supporting "DDI" file as well.
If that fails then goto the Manufacturer's web site and see if they have something later then Novell are providing, as you mentioned they were going to include it in SP7 and didn't, so you may find it else where.

Regards

David

Hey, sometimes when I don't know the slot number, I use a little trick to force NetWare to tell me. I load the driver with a bogus slot number, like LOAD AHA2940.HAM SLOT=95. Anyway, it won't take it, but will offer you the correct slot #, which you can then use to load it correctly. You can also transfer this newfound knowledge into the Installation routine for the server, or into INETCFG.

If that's not even close to what you're having a problem with, then i apologize, but I don't quite understand your question.

at this point, i installed novell on an IDE disk, after i finished i went into nwconfig and added tried to install the controller, it gave a slot number of 10012 but the result was the same, it would not load; i loaded scsihd.cdm first and then tried to load the controller again and it worked just fine.
I shutted down the server, disconnected the IDE drive and gave it a try at the installation from the SCSI disks thinking that loading scsihd.cdm would solve my problem, when i got to that part of the installation i could not see any *.cdm modules, all i saw was .ham modules...i am thinking cdm files are added once you finish the installation, i also copied the cdm on a floppy disk an tried to load it from the console and it loaded fine, but the scsi controller did not.

any ideas?

During the NetWare install, the HAM's are configured in one step, and the CDM's in the next step. You'll never see HAM's and CDM's in the same list when installing the server.

Just get the HAM driver put in and configured, then go to the next screen and you should be able to select SCSIHD.CDM if it's not already there..

i finally left novell run on the IDE driver and after that i enabled the scsi controller and created a separate volume.
i want to thank you all for your help, it sure was helpful
