Hi all!
I'm newbie of Sun Solaris, and I've a problem about the UFSDUMP command 2 make a backup of my system.
If I not intserted the cassette into teh tape drive, and I try to launch the command ufsdump ... I obtain a question that ask me if I would like to insert the tape and proceed with the backup by typeing the "yes" answer. If I response "no" ufsdump stop it.
Is there a possibility to force the ufsdump to exit when the tape is not loaded or device is offline?
Many thanks for the respose.

I use a test for the status of the tape drive before the ufsdump and exit if it returns a non-zero response. From memory (I'm at home), something like:

mt -f /dev/rmt/0 status
if [ $? = 0 ]
then
ufsdump....etc
else
exit
fi

I'll check later at work, but you get the drift. HTH.

Many tnx for the responses!
I've resolved with the tip of KenCunningham! :D
