I am attempting to identify the UDP ports that are used between an i2002/i2004 IP Phone and a Sucession? I need to know the UDP ports used for signalling and those used for RTP media streams, plus any others.

I have seen a couple of installations and they were both different (looking at traces using Ethereal). The customer has supplied me with some details but he does not know what is what. I am attempting to put together some QoS ACL's that correctly identify the different types of traffic from the IP Phones. This is easy with Cisco as the ports are widely documented but I am struggling a bit with finding the info on the Nortel stuff?

Thanks

Andy

Thanks for that it is an excellent piece of information. I have another question. The customer has supplied me with the following info from Element Manager:

RUDP Port Summary

Port ID Src IP Src Port
+----------+---------------+--------+
0x1ca39da0 0.0.0.0 15001
0x1ca39e20 10.0.0.110 15000
0x1ca39ea0 10.27.59.1 7300
0x1ca39f20 10.27.59.1 5100
0x1ca39fa0 10.27.59.1 5105
0x1ca3a420 10.27.59.2 4100

From the spreadsheet I can work out all except the 5th line with port 5105, any idea what this is?

Thanks

Andy

Just to add....

I have noticed that Nortel use DSCP 40 for signalling and 46 (EF) for RTP. I assume signalling using UDP ports 4100, 5100 & 7300 will set DSCP 40? Is this the case?

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy.

According to the port number tables appendix in the Nortel Data Networking for VOIP document, 5105 is listed as:-

Task:Firmware Download
Protocol:UDP
Interface:TLAN
Description:UFTP
Comments:UNIStim file transfer protocol.

Hope this helps.

Dave.

Hi Andy,

For the Voice (media) RTP stream the ITG Line or MC card will use the even port numbers between 5200 and 5246 to Internet Telephone port 5200.
Signalling ITG Line or MC card port 5100 to Internet Telephone port 5000 (UNIStim over RUDP link) Note: Port 5000 is fixed by the Internet Telephone.
Registration ITG Line or MC card ports 4100 and 7300 to Internet Telephone port 5000

Hope this helps.

Ronald

The DSCP value of 40 and 46 is a hex # converted from nortel relating to precendense DSCP 0 and 6. But it marks only the RUDP packages with this. So when the phone is "only" ringing it's using 40 and when someone answers it automaticly goes over to 46. This is because it don't need any QoS when you're not speeking.
