UDF READER HELP !!

OK, I HAVE XP PRO, INTEL MB, P3-500 CPU.
UDF WAS WORKING FOR MY BURNER, THEN EASY CDCREATOR PLATINUM QUIT WORKING AND IT WOULD NOT LET ME REMOVE IT, NOR REINSTALL IT EITHER, SINCE THEN I KEEP GETTING UDF READER NEEDED TO SEE MY DATA CD'S, I HAVE UNINSTALLED AND REINSTALLED BOTH OLD AND NEW VERSIONS OF ROXIO'S UDF READ PROG. BUT EVEN THOUGH XP SAYS ITS THERE, MY CD'S STILL SAY I NEED IT.

I HAVE WIPED THE REGISTRY OF EVERYTHING PERTAINING TO EZCD, DELETED ALL OF ITS SHARED AND COMMON FOLDERS, AND IT IS STILL SHOWING UP ON MY SYSTEM, AND UNINSTALL STILL SAYS I DONT HAVE THE CORRECT ECDC5.WIP FILE TO REMOVE IT. TRYING TO REINSTALL ANY VERSION INCLUDING PLATINUM RESULTS IN "ANOTHER VERSION ALREADY INSTALLED, QUITTING INSTALL"

ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEAS,, DONT REALLY CARE ABOUT EZCD, JUST WANT MY UDF TO READ MY DATA CD'S

A couple of things to try first.

Are you able to get back to a Restore Point before this episode using System Restore? If you have any restore points to use you can replace any software you have uninstalled just by going back to before you uninstalled it.
Then you can see if it works correctly or if it doesn't, see if it will uninstall correctly.

If you can't do that and you are left with a mess in your registry you could try running a registry cleaner through your system (

is a good one. This might clean up the registry so you can install or re-install programs.

Without EZCD what CD burning software are you running to read/write your data disks? Your EZDC might have disabled the XP CD Burning software as a last act of defiance, (and/or in order for EZCD to work in the first place). Check that the IMAPI CD-Burning Service is not disabled (should be set to manual).

As far as UDF Reader is concerned on my system it is not fully compatible with XP and can cause problems. I have used it to read old disks but have to remove it if XP starts having problems with it.

Control Panel -- Administrative Tools -- Services. Find the one called IMAPI CD Burning Service. Right click, select Properties, change Startup type to Manual.

And just some friendly advice -- you're here asking people for free help and donated expertise. You might consider being more polite, even when you're frustrated. Just because you don't understand their answer doesn't make it wrong (case in point).

OK,, SORRY ALL,

IMAPI CD is set to manual, still cannot see my files on R or RW media,, then tried STARTING Imapi,,, still no files. when I property the drive, it shows 0 used 0 free when i know the disc is almost full,

Dear Fred, I ran into a problem in windows XP that apparently,
according to the Microsoft newsgroups, many more people are
having.

I attempted to install a cd burner in my xp machine, and in
the process, windows xp decided it no longer wanted to
recognize either my cd-rom or burner as working hardware.
After a long and trying day or changing my cd-rom's setups
from master, to slave, to ide1 to ide2, and still ending up
with conflicts in the device manager as having conflicts in
both (even though xp did see them as new hardware and

or my computer (but did show up in the bios), I finally sought
out help from others in the Microsoft newsgroups and found my
answer.

It seems that, if you had recently uninstalled a copy of
roxio's cd creator in win xp, that registry settings from that
program are left behind in the registry, and renders your cd-
rom/and or burner un-usable.

Granted, it involves going into the registry and deleting two
items, which can be intimidating and dangerous if not done

Wow, Bruce, thanks. I've been getting mail on the mystery of lost CD
access, and had it on my to-do list to try to track down an answer. You
beat me to it!

The title of the Knowledgebase article says it all: "CD-ROM Access Is
Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, or Code 39
After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP." If that's the problem
you're having, Bruce found your answer.

Make a backup first (

then can edit the registry without worry, because you can restore your
system to its previous state if something goes wrong.

ok,, now i can see files on the RW cd's, but they are locked up and cannot edit them or remove,, disc has 249 mb on it and reports full ??

still cannot see anything on cd-R media, they are just a blank ,,,,

ezcd5 is still haunting me,, wont let me unistall or reinstall.......

any more ideas anyone ??

If we are talking about XP CD Burning (inbuilt software) then you are not able to edit and delete files from a CD.

What it can do is write to a CD. It will overwrite a file already recorded on the CD if that file (on the CD) has the same name as the file waiting to be written.

What you can do is copy all files from the CD into a folder on your hard drive. Edit them in that folder. Use the Erase option to clean the CD of all data. You can now write your edited files back to the CD.

This is an awkward procedure but that is XP's CD burning software.

As far as your CDR's are concerned I think you are going some how to get the UDF Reader to work under XP or think about copying them to another CD on another machine and then try the new CD's on your machine.
