Have a UCM R8.1 on an IPO R8.1
It was working fine on the bench.
I was able to set the IP address of the UCM and access it via the web interface (on the bench).
Deployed it with a connection to a SCN site and was able to access it from there as well. Via the IP Address, dialing *17 and pressing the "Message" button on the phones.

I am now getting a couple of alarms in SSA of "UC Moule Heartbeat Failure" and "UC Module failed to charge battery".
I looked in Manager under Control Unit and can see the IP Address assigned to the UCM (UCM- 192.168.1.11 and IPO is 192.168.1.10).
They lost power a few times over the weekend and I am wondering if that may have killed the UCM (not being a graceful shutdown).

I also tried a ping to the IP address and got no reply and tried telnet and ssh with no reply.
I am looking now for an HDMI cable and an HDMI capable monitor to connect with.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried rebooting both already.
I rebooted the IPO Chassis a couple of times already and tried rebooting just the UCM a couple of times.
I will try it again though.

Phoneguy15, is the led on the UCM green or red or blinking?
You really should connect a monitor to it.
And yes power failure is not good for any server.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Peter,
The LED is green with the amber flash.
I now have a monitor connected to it and see absolutely nothing on the screen.
Completely black as if it's not getting any input from the UCM.

What happens is you hit enter?
Hold the top button pressed and the led should start blinking.
When it is off then press it again.
You probably plugged in a monitor when it was already running and then it does not work :)

I shut down the module (press and hold the top button) and waited for the bottom LED to go out except for the green flash.
I verified my monitor was set to the correct input (on the monitor settings).
Monitor is on and pressed the top button on the UCM again to start the UCM.
nothing shows on the monitor while the UCM is booting or since it has "finished".
The status is solid green with the amber flash.
Still blank monitor and it actually has gone in to sleep mode from no input.
no response when I press the Enter key on the keyboard either.

Additional information...

I went into SSA to the System/UC Modules/Slot 3 UC Module and selected the "Shutdown" option.
I could kick myself right now because I didn't make note of the current status of the module before I did that.
Anyway, after it shut down I selected "Start Up" and watched for it to boot.
The Status showed "Booting" for about 4 minutes until it returned a "Boot Failed" message.
I will now be investigating the process to reload it.
Maybe that will work.

Download c110-8.1.90-6_el6.iso , 8.1.x and 8.1.90-6_upgrade.zip , 8.1.x
Now use the 8.1.90-6_upgrade.zip to create an upgrade USB stick, plug it in, and boot the C110 and wait, or read the rest of the manual :)

I have a couple of those already, but of course since I need more, the Avaya Support site is having issues and is not letting me download anything right now.
I keep getting "Service Unavailable The server is temporarily unable to service your request. Please try again later."

I'll keep trying and let you know how it goes.

It it says boot failed then try to see if the BIOS shows up when you boot it.
If not then your last resort is to reinstall.
If that fails then it is probably fried.

Peter,
Bios does show up as "Unified Communications Processor 0.019.0"

I have finally gotten the files from the Avaya site.
I created a USB Installer in the "Install" mode. I did not see an "Upgrade" mode available for selection.
The book says to put the iso file in the /C110iso folder.
I tried that and booted the UCM by using the "startup" option from SSA. I watch the status of the UCM in SSA and it tries to Boot for a few minutes and then fails.

Should I see some type of dialog for it trying to upgrade in SSA?

At any rate, it appears that it is not taking the reload from the USB stick.
It could very well be that I am doing something wrong, though.

You are.
Shut it down and plug in the stick.
Now press and hold the button until you see the legs flash orange.
Then release.

Well, never got any reaction from the UCM while trying to to reload the software. Never anything on the monitor that is connected to the UCM. Always a black screen.

I have since replaced the UCM with another.
Monitor connection now works fine. I can see it boot up and login.
After I installed it and booted it I was able to get in the the command line via the Admin and Config logins.
The voicemail is still not accessible from IPO (via the Message button or dialing *17).
So, I checked the status of the UCM in SSA.
It shows 'Boot Failed'.
When I try to access the system via the web page I get 'Page not found'.
I have tried both ADDR>:7070 and the UCM IP>:7070

I looked in Manger at the C110 UCP under 'Control Unit' and it still shows the IP addr of the OLD UCM.
That is why I tried accessing the the old ip addr via the web browser.

So, I used SSA to shut down the the UCM. While it was shutting down I saw it show that Eth 0 did not have an IP address assigned.

I saw in other posts that I can set the IP addr via the root login. however, I do not have access to that.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Remove the UCM and login in to the IPOffice.
Go to control unit and delete the UCM.
Also delete the virtual preferred edition license and reboot the IPO.
Again open the config and see if it is gone.
If yes then power down the IPO and plug the new UCM in it and boot the IPO.
then you have a fresh new UCM ready to configure :)

Does it show up in the manager with UC module:inv? Then you need to add the essential licence.

Ok, this is getting ridiculous.

Turns out the Firmware version on the IPO was only 8.0.18.
I never thought to look at that because I loaded this chassis and two others at the same time with 8.1.43 on the bench.
The only thing I can think of that would cause this is that I had to switch the SD card in the system so we could change the endpoint licenses from 3rd party to Avaya endpoints and "send back" the 3rd party licenses.
I think that the SD card must have had 8.0.18 on it and loaded that at some point.

So, 8.0.18 does not support C110 module. That's understandable but does not explain why I never got anything to display on the monitor connected to the original UCM.
The replacement UCM at least showed info on the monitor and gave me a login prompt even though the IPO firmware was at 8.0.18 and would not allow the UCM to boot.
I believe there was still a problem with the original UCM.
I have since upgraded the IPO firmware to 8.0.42 because it is probably too late to go all the way back up to 8.1.x without an Upgrade License (Thanks for that, Avaya).

Moving on.
After I upgraded the IPO firmware last night to 8.0.43 the UCM 'magically' started working. Hooray!
I was able to see the UCM had successfully booted in SSA and was able to access it via the web access.
So this morning users were able to access voicemail and set up their mailboxes.
I get back onsite about mid morning and begin configuration of the Auto Attendant.
Everything is going great. I then get to the point of having someone record a very long prompt in a menu of the Auto Attendant and it just stops.
The system disconnected while she was recording.
I look at SSA and it shows the system running but not the normal display with the pie charts.
I glance over at the monitor I left connected and there is a whole bunch of dialog about a missing file path or some such.
I go through SSA and shutdown the module to try a restart.
I restart the UCM and on the monitor the following message appears:

EFI Shell version 2.00 [4660.22136]
Current running mode 1.1.2
map: Cannot find required map name.
Press ESC in 6 seconds to skip startup.nsh, any other key to continue.

Eventually I just get a Shell> prompt after the X seconds timer expires.

I'm guessing that the software is somehow now corrupt and needs to be reloaded.
I am now downloading the 1.8Gb file and getting ready to try the USB reload again.

Unless someone tells me that reloading won't work.

Great. Now I'm getting an error of:
"Unable to download the kickstart file. Please modify the kickstart parameter below or press Cancel to proceed as an interactive installation"

This is the file path that is showing with the error:

hd:sdb1:ks.cfg

I pulled the USB drive and checked to make sure that there was a ks.cfg in the root folder and there is.

Where the hell is my sledgehammer?

The final (I hope) update.
It turned out that the second UCM we got was defective as well.
We got it replaced (per the distributors recommendation) instead of continuing to try to reload the software.
Installed the latest replacement and programmed and everything, so far, is working just fine.

So to recap:
- 1st UCM worked on bench then became unresponsive on site. Not even anything when connecting a monitor and keyboard directly to the module.
- 2nd UCM worked in the system during configuration and then when the user was recording prompts, it stopped. Tried reloading and got errors for kickstart file.
- 3rd UCM is up and running so far.
