type tricks xtension problem

I am using Quark 4.11 with TypeTricks 1.4 xtension to draw various color underscores in an ESL book. With this version of type tricks every time I paste something in my document from the library or another file, all of the pre-defined colors of my underscores changes.

I have to keep defining the colors in order to work in my document and have to make sure that before the final save all the colors are correct.

What is causing this very annoying problem?

When you bring in artwork, by importing it or from a library, Quark updates the color and font lists. If the extension tracks the position or creation order of the color, rather than its name, it might change the definition unhelpfully or dynamically. ("It's not a bug, it's a feature"....NOT)

I'm not sure there's any way to prevent this, or even if this IS the problem; I can't scuttle through the code that the Xtension is written in. But you might eliminate the worst of your problems by importing all your art first, then going through and applying your custom underlines. That way, the Xtension will have a stable list to look at.

Also, you should post this problem on the Quark site, to get their engineers to make a quick update on this. If it's a question of how the color is being tracked, it probably wouldn't take too much tinkering. (Engineers don't use the Xtensions for real work, so they probably didn't test it in a situation where this behavior occurred. They may even have acquired it from an independent developer who wrote a quick fix for his own problems.)
