Quality won't usually be an issue, but make sure you include the fonts used in the Illustrator file. Alternatively, convert all the text to outlines in Illustrator. Rumour has it that this can cause problems with some printers, although I've yet to see it happen.
You should check with your printer first, though. Some hate Illustrator layouts because some designers give them a bad name. Common problems include stray points, empty text paths (trying to find a missing font only to find it was never used anyway!), embedded images with wrong color space/resolution, etc. Luckily, Illustrator has many tools to isolate these problems (Select > Object > stray points, Type > Find Font, Object > Rasterize, Filter > Colors > Convert to CMYK, etc...). Unfortunately, many people don't use them.
Having said that, if your Illustrator file is set up correctly, there shouldn't be a problem. Alternatively, you could create a PDF, but that's a whole new can of worms!
