Hi,
Is there anyway to determine the type of slots available in my Dell Dimension 8300 without opening the cover, and whether they are being used or not? I do know that my system has a Radeon 128MB DDR ATI 9800 card already installed.

TIA, Randy

Yep...one way is

You should have 1 agp and 4 pci. If Dell installed any cards when they built the machine, they would have used

agp for video
pci1 for network
pci2 for modem
pci3 for sound
pci4 for firewire

If any or all of the above is built into the motherbord, the corresponding slot would be free.

Go to:

Enter your service tag and select original system configuration to see how your machine was originally configured.

Wow,
Thanks for the info. I spent hours on the Dell support web site and never did find this page. I've given you a star for your help.
