I arrange my icons by name. They get sorted by name, but it appears there are two SETS of icons, each sorted alphabetically.

I don't know what causes this, but I'd sure like to be able to have all programs sorted alphabetically rather than two sets of them.

I have deleted shelliconcache but they return as before.

Any help appreciated...

Paul

sounds like you have the icons under multiple profiles on the desktop. goto c:\documents and settings\All Users\Desktop and then go to your profile's desktop and see if there are the same icons there.
Icons in the All Users\Desktop folder showup for all users in addition to whatever Icons you put on the desktop in your individual profile as well. Delete the icons from the All Users\Desktop profile if you don't want other people getting those same icons when they logon.

Or, you may have accidentally made copies of the icons as well. Can you delete them? pbxman

Pbxman...

Thanks a bunch. Yes, I did have two separate sets of icons in ALL and my personal account. (Running on a stand-alone machine).

I presume different apps write info to different spots as I've always signed in (as far as I know) with my own name and I have Administrator rights.

Now all is fine.

I'm just learning how to use Windows 2000.
