Hello,

I have an instance of exchange 2007 I need to remove from my AD.

When I go into my Exchange Management console under Server Configuration I see 2 servers:

abc
xyz

I need to remove abc.

Neither server has had the key entered in. The abc server expires in a month.

If leaving it their is more of a visual annoyance than anything else I would just leave it.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.

Server xyz was actually rebuilt on the hardware for abc. So I guess you can say ABC is a ghost haunting my AD.

If the server is no longer available (and it isn't), you'll need adsiedit.

Is it easier to build it up on another server using setup.com /m:RecoverServer and then do a proper install? Just thought of doing that.

No, ADSI is a 5 minute job to delete the entries in AD. recovering a server means building an OS, sorting out the domain membership, installing Exchange using recover, making sure all is well, then uninstall Exchange then disjoin domain then wipe. Longer I think.

ADSI worked great. It was quite apparent to me once I actually located the correct place in AD to remove the servers.

Thanks for help I now have a working exchange server that isn't haunted by ghosts of past exchange servers...lol
