Two Images?

I am coming from Photoshop 7 and am a newbie with CS4. I opened an image in CS4 and when I opened a second image the first image vanished. So far I am unable to open two images on the screen. Am I doing something wrong? I can't believe this is the default setting in CS4.
Any help will be appreciated.

No, you're not doing anything wrong. PS4 uses tabs when you open multiple photos. It didn't really disappear, it's just on a separate tab. It's similar to multi-tabbed browsing.

If you prefer to turn this function off...
Edit menu->Preferences->Interface->uncheck 'Open Documents as Tabs'

The manual offers other ways to work with or without tabs.
