I have one Windows 2000 server SP4 with Exchange 2000 SP3 on it.

I have the server domain as abc.co.uk and have started another company xyz.co.uk which I have added to the exchange server so i can send and receive email from both domains.

All the users have existing mailboxes attached to their existing user accounts which is great. Now I have added a new email address for all of them in AD so they have user1@abc.co.uk (set as primary address) and user1@xyz.co.uk as another smtp address. This means that they get all the email they should do from external sources but when they want to send an email out they can only send it from the Primary address.

I need the users to be able to send email from both of there accounts abc.co.uk and xyz.co.uk.

Please help me??

i understand having the 2 addresses active during a transition period, but why would you want to send from the secondary.
I mean if it's really important you could create a second mailbox with the sendoary address, give them full control over it or just make them deligates. then forward all emails to the primary mailbox.
Then if they need to send from the secondary they used the From: section to specify the secondary mailbox.
but that seems like a lot of useless work.

The reason we have two names is because we run two seperate companies from one server. This situation will always be like this.

I have thought about your idea which is fine it is just that I didn't want to have to have lots and lots of mailbox and accounts.

Just add the other domain to the default recipient policy.

Getting mail to the server is not athe problem, that works fine. The problem is being able to send mail from one mailbox but choosing the address it leaves with.

Sorry, misread the question.
But, what you want to do will not work.
You will need 2 mailboxes for that, per user.
