Hello, how do I schedule my computer to turn on at a certain time? I have found programs that enable me to shutdown the computer at programmed times but not vice versa.

Thanks for the help.

The only way to do this is if the capability exists within the CMOS of that particular motherboard. Access the CMOS and look in the power management section.

You would have to agree to Hibernation instad of shutdown for this to work in the absence of BIOS support.

Even the Task Scheduler has a WakeUp feature in its Settings feature.

So you could schedule a nonsense .bat or .cmd file, and set the Wakeup setting to enabled.

The computer is still not waking up even though the wakeup setting is on. Whether its hibernating or straight shutdown, the wakeup setting doesn't seem to work.

The only time the wakeup feature will work is if I put the computer on standby, but I'd prefer if I could wake the computer from shutdown or hibernation. BTW the rainlyclouds.com program's turn on feature seems to behave like Window's own wakeup feature.

How about setting the computer to startup when power restored in BIOS and then using a timer switch on the power cord?

Check your "Wake On" settings.

It would help to know what type of mobo you have...
I've had an AOPEN mobo which woke up only when it hadn't been started before the scheduled time (and it had to be scheduled daily for the specific date and time)...
My new ASUS A7N8X-X has no such problems!

I've got a stupid board from gateway which doesn't let me change anything useful if you think changing the time is :) So tweaking the BIOS is out of the question.

Btw, where can I find the "wake on" setting?

Did this thread give you the locations to check?

Honestly, the only real clean way to do this is when the PC is on stand-by. Shutdown is ... shutdown.
Compare it with a police office or firefighter on stand-by if you will. If they are not on stand-by, they are not called.
In some ways, as already mentioned above, a BIOS can 'force' a PC to power on, but if yours does not allow that, you are stuck with the stand-by option.
