Hi

In version 8.5, turning off auto smart linking was easy (under file, options and look for the check box) but in version 9, this check box is gone. I work with databases with field names that are the same but which in fact don't contain the same data (ie auto linking is a pain in the butt for me because I have to remove all the links every time I add a table.) Does anyone know how to turn this option off in version 9?

Thanks

There is no menu item for shutting off Smart Linking in v9. You can clear ALL of the links by using the "Clear Links" button but if you have added one table to a report this will take the good links away with the bad.

The KB article shows you how to change it from by Name to by Key. While this might help minimize the links created, it doesn't shut off the auto-link feature.

There is another registry key called "LinkMethod" that is set to "LinkByName" but I am not sure if changing this to another value will shut off the smart linking all together. When I boot up my guinea pig machine I will give it a try - unless someone already knows the answer.

Ken thanks very much. It seems to be quite an oversight by Seagate. Anyway, I will apply the patches.

Cheers
