I am running SCO 5.0.6... for the last 3 days I have had a strange message when trying to telnet into our server. the message is something like:

ttyp2 is disabled - see your systems administrator.

luckily I have webmin installed and am able to connect using webmin, I kill all telnetd processes and then the problem goes away. I am able to telnet into the server again.

anyone know what might cause something like that? it has not happened before. I haven't made any changes either.

What you have is not a strange message, it is an informative one that is telling you that one of your pseudo terminals is disabled and your system administrator (you, we assume) should unlock it.

Try opening more than one telnet at a time, login to one of them as root and type 'scoadmin terminal' and use the handy unlock function, or the even simpler command line option of enable ttyp2.

I am experiencing a similar problem. When I try to telnet, I get
Terminal is disabled -- see Account Administrator.

I am the acct admin. and have not done any changes to the h/w or s/w.

enable ttyp1 did not help, but strangely returns a message
ttyp1 not enabled : not a valid tty

I do have an entry /dev/ttyp1 which seems valid
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 58, 1 Jun 30 11:29 ttyp1

It looks like some file might have been corrupted.
Please tell me what I have to do to correct this problem.

Thanks in advance.

man ttyunlock

Hope This Helps, PH.

yes, the problem was a locked tty, I forgot all about this thread. too many failed attempts at a login on that particular tty, I guess it doesn't have to be consecutive failed attempts it adds up. Then locks.

also there is a menu in the scoadmin utility that will list the locked tty's

scoadmin -> system -> terminal manager

that is for version SCO 5.0.6
