Hi,

By mistake the filesets on one of our client nodes was deleted, these included API-DB2 backup images. We have TSM database backup tape that was backed up using a L12 IBM Tape library - 3575. My question is can I restore the TSM database to a test server that I have TSM5.1 already installed, and then config it to restore the DB2 images if the need arises. As I dont want to over write the current TSM database and I want to use the 3570 tape library attached to the Production TSM server. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
The servers are all AIX5.1

Many thanks
Dexter

I'd suggest calling Tivoli immediately for help in resolving this issue. This is not one to be asking on tek-tips for. The tivoli list-serv is a much better source of information but with a problem of this nature, go right for tivoli support help.

Bottom line is yes you can do what you're theorizing however it will depend largely on whether any reclamation has run since that data was deleted. If an expire inventory has run (runs anytime TSM server starts or typically on a daily basis automatically unless you change it to some other pattern), and *IF* reclamation has run and reclamed portions of tapes that the data resides on, you may not be able to recover it at this point. The likelyhood of this would be lessoned if you have an offsite copypool as those tapes with the data on them may not have been rotated onsite yet and reclaimed. I would disable reclamation immediately until you resolve this issue..
