Please help me!!!
(I don't know if this is the right forum. I apologize if it isn't.)I have 2 home computers networked with a crossover cable and 2 3com nic cards running windows 98. they are using netbeui to connect (tcp/ip is also installed). I can map a drive on either computer to the other and I would like to be able to share an internet connection. I downloaded a program called ANALOG X PROXY, and I can't get it to work. I assigned an IP adress to both computers
(ie. IP address (host)10.0.0.1 & 10.0.0.2 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0) and they both showed that they were on the right IP addresses using winipcfg, but I couldn't ping the other computer. I don't have win98 second edition, and I heard that the sharing isn't that great anyway. Is there anyway to make this work? What am I doing wrong? Is there a better program? Do I have to do anything else other than install this program to make it work? Any help would be appreciated because this is driving me crazy. The documentation said to make sure that you can ping the other or it won't work. That's all I could find about it. It doesn't say anything about doing this with a crossover cable like this. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance!
Brandon

what is the error you get when you ping? Unable to reach or timeout? The error will help determine what is wrong. As for win98se Internet Connection Sharing, it works better than any proxy program i have used. The ICS on win2k works well also. let me know what error you have, I'll give you some pointers.

Wingate or Artisoft I-share are possibilities. And why don't you eliminate the IPX/SPX and netbui as unneccessary remnants of earlier technology?

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Try to change your setup, select auto detect proxy server.and try to disable your IP address to auto assign IP address.let me some error appear when pinging.
