Trying to record internal audio - mono or stereo. I can do it easily in XP, using Audacity, Cybercorder, etc. I go to the SPEAKER icon near the clock,

Selecting VOLUME CONTROL - OPTIONS - PROPERTIES -
RECORDING - MICROPHONE or MONO MIX or STEREO MIX

How do you do this in Vista? It is really different.

Thanks, Dave Y

Right-click on the Volume Icon in the Notification Area. Select Recording Devices. In that window right-click anywhere and play with the available options to configure your sound.

I've found the secret!! To enable internal audio recording with Vista (even with an onboard sound card):

"If you've tried recording internally with Windows Vista, you won't see an option for Wave Out Mix. It's not that the option's been left out of Vista, Microsoft just decided to hide it. Media Center Show podcast producer Ian Dixon has the instructions for enabling Wave Out recording:

1. Select sound from the control panel.
2. Select the recording tab.
3. Right click on the background of the tab and choose "show disabled devices."
4. Right click on Wave Out Mix and click enable.
5. Now it should work the same way as Wave Out Mix in Windows XP, allowing you to record any sound your computer makes." - Audacity wiki
