Can anybody help me. Basically we have installed on our windows 2000 server, Goldmine 5.7 Sql, build 20222. We want to get one of the workstations to link with this server but keep getting the following error msg:-

Cannot locate or connect to SQL server.
Native SQL error: 10004

Context: openDatabase
MSSQL: GoldMine_Sales: dbo.SYNCSITE

1: Alias: GoldMine_Sales
2: Server message: Unable to connect: SQL Server is unavailable or does not exist. Specified SQL server not found.

BDE Error Cat:Code: [44:13]
BDE: 500 [4/11/1999] GoldMine: 5.70.20222

User: PAUL
Window: &OK

Template: 7169
Details:
ALIAS: GoldMine_Sales
NATIVEMSG: Unable to connect: SQL Server is unavailable or does not exist. Specified SQL server not found.

On the client version of sql server 7, I have added the GM database into the SQL Server Group. Any ideas on where I am going wrong or what obvious thing have i forgotton.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Have you installed the SQL client connectivity on the workstation? If so run the BDE Administrator from that workstation, which should be in the ..\GoldMine\Setup\BDEShare directory.

Verify that there an alias called GoldMine_Sales on the left, and if there is that all the settings are correct.

Especially check 'Database Name' This should be the name of the SQL database, and check 'Server Name' which should be the name of your SQL server.

Then check that the BDE can connect to the database, Right-click on the alias 'GoldMine_Sales' and select 'Open'. You will get a prompt box, enter the SQL username and password, click OK.

If the text on the right goes bold, then the connection is valid.

I would imagine that if you go through the above you will resolve the promblem.
